Windows 8 Consumer Preview and Windows Server 8 beta were made available for download on 29th February, 2012. At that point, no one had an idea about what these Operating Systems will be named finally as these names were not final. But yesterday, Microsoft has clarified some details about the names and editions of their next Windows client and server Operating Systems.
Microsoft has retained the name of Windows 8 as Windows 8 while Windows Server 8 has been changed to Windows Server 2012. So we will be getting an overhaul of name change in the next release of Windows Server.
According to the speculations, the release candidates of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 will be released in the summers of 2012 (Probably in July). If you are a regular visitor of this blog, you’ll recall that we have covered the leaked roadmaps of Microsoft products until 2014 and we also covered Windows 8 release dates and build numbers.
According to Microsoft, Windows Server 2012 will be a cloud optimized Operating System. We have already talked about the availability of online backup service integrated with Windows Server 2012. Let’s wait for the next release of Windows Server 2012 which will hopefully add to the current feature set of the beta product.
