Windows 8 Consumer Preview was released by Microsoft a few days ago and it has already been downloaded more than a million times. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can download Windows 8 Consumer Preview and use an activation key to Activate Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Since this version of Windows is not final and is free for everyone to try, there should be an expiry date for it. This is very much like Windows 8 Developer Preview which was due to expire in March, 2012 but you can extend the expiry date to 2013.
If you want to know about your Windows 8 Consumer Preview expiry date, follow the steps below:
- Open the Charms bar (Windows 8 shortcut: Win + C)
- Click on the Search button
- Search for “winver”
- Run winver from the search results
You can see that all the Windows 8 Consumer Preview installations are evaluation copies and are set to expire on 15-01-2013. The exact Windows 8 Consumer Preview expiry date and time are:
15th January, 2013 3:59 PM
We are still about a year ahead of the expiry date so we can enjoy Windows 8 Consumer Preview free of cost for about a year. If you want to know exactly how many days, hours and minutes are left, you can see this count down timer. I have made the time using GMT. I hope the expiry time is also in GMT but I’m not sure about this.
