Internet Information Services (IIS) is a web server created by Microsoft which can be used to host files over the network or internet. It is the second widely used web server after Apache HTTP server. It supports web protocols like HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SMTP and NNTP. The latest version of IIS is 7.5. IIS is a part of Windows Operating System but it is not installed by default. You have to install it if you need it through Windows tools.

Internet Information Services 7.5 Express is a lighter version of IIS which only support HTTP and HTTPS. It is available as a standalone download from Microsoft. It can be downloaded from Microsoft Download Center and installed on any client Windows Operating System (Windows XP SP3 or later). This is especially useful for development purposes.
