Fix Slow Logoff With User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (Event ID 1517, 1524, or 1500 In Event Logs)

Usually we encounter slow logoff of our account in Windows. This is because when a driver or application opens a registry handle and then does not close it, the registry is stuck there and the system shows that the registry is still being used by that driver or application. The problem occurs when we logoff and Windows try to unload the registry of that particular user and the system shows that the registry is still being used by a process.

User Profile Hive Cleanup Service ensures that the user sessions are completely terminated when a user logs off. This service monitors the logged off users that still have registry hives loaded. The service releases any open handles that are still left open by applications and drivers.

Direct download link for downloading User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (UPHClean) is here. It’s a 420KB msi file. Just download it and install. It will automatically start the service and monitor for open registry hives for logged off users.
