Windows 8 has made many tasks easier. Removing or Uninstalling applications is one of them. For removing a single Windows store app, the process is pretty simple. Just right-click on the application. On the bottom of the screen you’ll see different options. Just choose the “uninstall” option and Windows 8 will do the rest.
As observed, the option of removing a single app does exist but what about removing multiple apps in one go? If you select multiple files then you will not be able to see the uninstall option. This means that you cannot directly remove multiple Windows store apps. However, there is an easy way to remove multiple Windows 8 Store apps at once. For this, you just have to download and install script called RemoveWindowsStoreApp from TechNet.
The main benefit of this script is that you will be able to uninstall the crashed Windows 8 apps properly.
Run the Windows PowerShell script file from the downloaded zip file.
Before running the script, you will need to edit it. Open the script RemoveWindowsStoreApp in Notepad for editing.
Scroll down to the end of the file and add the following line and save it.
When you’re done with editing, right-click the script file and choose “Run with PowerShell”.
The screen will display all the Windows Store apps that have been installed on your computer along with their IDs.
The script works in a very basic way. On the bottom you can see the option which asks for IDs of the applications you want to remove. Insert multiple IDs and separate them by comma. Press enter and Windows Powershell will do the rest.
For example, here is a preview of Windows 8 start screen:
The highlighted ones are two apps I want to remove “Bing Finance” and “Bing Sports”. Their IDs in PowerShell are 3 and 20. Here I have entered them:
After you are done with the IDs, press enter. The program will ask you for conformation. I removed 2 programs so the application asked me two times.
Once you are done press enter and the selected apps will be uninstalled.
As of now, it is the easiest and safest way to uninstall multiple Windows 8 apps. The script may work on Windows surface tablet as well.
Note: The process only works for Windows 8 Modern UI apps only. You can’t uninstall multiple manually installed apps that have been downloaded from different sources in your computer. It just works for pre-installed apps and apps installed from Windows 8 store.
